MANAGING STUDENT BEHAVIOR FOR SUPPORT STAFF Expected Outcome: Participants will know some of the causes and characteristics of undesirable student behavior, provide research-based interventions to increase student engagement in academic tasks, and explore how to appropriately collect data to increase desired student behavior. CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT EXPECTED OUTCOMES: Participants will explore research-based information on Beginning of the Year Classroom Management, emphasizing planning before the school year starts for how teachers want their classroom to function. Specific topics covered will be room arrangement, clear rules with consequences, and a checklist of procedures (or housekeeping routines), reviewing and reteaching them as necessary. EFFECTIVE GROUP MANAGEMENT EXPECTED OUTCOMES: Participants will receive research-based strategies and practices for classroom instructional considerations and classroom managerial considerations to assist in maximizing student learning. In addition, participants will have a clear understanding of the differences in strategies and practices that are planned for and those strategies and practices that successful classroom teachers continually work on. MANAGING ANTISOCIAL BEHAVIOR EXPECTED OUTCOMES: Participants will learn research-based strategies to reduce and/or prevent the occurrence of disruptive or dangerous behavioral outbreaks. Research information will include identifying the students, development of antisocial behavior, effective classroom practices, and developmental considerations for interventions.
